Small Animal Science

The emphasis of this course is the study of animal reproduction, nutrition, health, training and management of small
animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits and affiliated small animals in the pet trade. Students learn how an animal’s body works to utilize food and grow healthy. Students will diagnose animal health and behavior to seek professional medical help for the welfare of the animal. Basic veterinary technology will be explored including clinical exams and hospital procedures. General training and exercising practices of these animals will be evaluated and mastered through a hands-on approach. Students will have the opportunity to compete in the NY FFA Vet Science contest. This class can count as a 3rd unit of Science.
