Materials Processing (Grades 10-12)

This course provides students with the foundational hands-on skills in the field of technology through the exploration of a wide variety of materials and the tools, equipment, and processes used to transform them.
This course focuses on the classifying, properties, and processes of materials and the selection of those materials to be used in applications. Learners should be concerned with processes and materials used in metals, woods, plastics, ceramics, and composites.
 
Special attention is given to safety in the workshop environment.

Topics covered include proper tool use, tool identification, shop safety, wood species identification, tree growth, wood joints, cabinet making, metal composition, metal identification, MIG welding, arc welding, TIG welding, brazing, CNC plasma cutting, oxy-acetylene cutting, ceramic and plastic identification, classification, and use.
