Outdoor Adventure Club
The Penn Yan Academy OAC (Outdoor Adventure Club) is designed for students, faculty and staff that have common interests enjoying different outdoor pursuits including; summiting peaks, mountain biking, kayaking or canoeing waters, and outdoor living.
The O.A.C. goals will focus on ways to conserve and enjoy nature while safely enjoying the outdoors.
The objective of the OAC is for participants to have the opportunity to plan and go on trips, meet other like-minded people and most of all enjoy the great outdoors. The O.A.C. focuses on proper training for hiking, orienteering, kayaking, canoeing, and x-c skiing and other outdoor pursuits. Trainings include outdoor living, following Leave No Trace principles, nutrition and safety while exploring.
The Outdoor Adventure Club hiked 3 miles into the High Peaks Wilderness to set up base camp. On Tuesday, August 1st, we hiked 10 miles and summited Mount Marcy, the highest place in NY. The sunrise summit is on Phelps Mountain, which included a full moon in the western sky. The group left base camp at 3:45 am to make it to the summit in time for the sunrise. The trip group included:
