Agriculture
A student enrolled in an agricultural CTE program develops an awareness of the scope and importance of the industry through the study of agricultural units and concepts, career opportunities, and personal development. This diverse CTE area may include topics from any of the following areas: general agriculture and production, agricultural business, agricultural mechanics/machinery, animal science/animal production/management, plant science/horticulture, natural resources, conservation, forestry, biotechnology, and related. Students are also encouraged to develop leadership, career, and technical skills through FFA and SAE/WBL opportunities and experiences.
CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION - AGRICULTURE
The CTE Agriculture Program has been designed to help students explore career options, to obtain industry-related skills, and to help develop college level academic skills necessary for success after high school in the broad field agriculture, agriscience, mechanics and environmental science. This program involves a combination of hands-on instruction, problem solving, and real world experiences which make the courses exciting as well as challenging.
The curriculum of the CTE Agriculture Program has received endorsement by the NY State Department of Education and students completing a 4 unit/credit sequence of study (see below) will be eligible to graduate with a special endorsement in Agricultural studies on their diploma, which helps graduates obtain admission to many agricultural universities as well as give them a competitive advantage in the world of work.
Agriculture Sequence – CTE Endorsement
4 Credits Total:
Introduction to Agricultural Science (1 credit)--REQUIRED
Choose 3 additional credits:
● Small Animal Science (1 credit)
● Large Animal Science (1 credit)
● Environmental Science (1 credit)
● Agricultural Mechanics (1 credit)
● Horticulture & Food Science (1 credit)
● *DDP (1 credit)
● *Construction Systems (1 credit)
● *Civil Engineering (1 credit)
*May only use 1 credit from these courses towards the Agriculture Sequence
Career & Financial Management is Integrated
Work Based Learning (WBL) is Integrated

performance Precision exam to earn a CTE Endorsement on their diploma.
